Your Financial Freedom Number
How to calculate the monthly passive income you need to be financially free.
What is a Financial Freedom Number?
Your Financial Freedom Number (FFN) is the monthly passive income required to cover all your living expenses — the point at which you no longer need to trade time for money.
How to calculate yours
- Add up your monthly expenses — housing, food, transportation, insurance, subscriptions, entertainment, savings
- Add a buffer — most advisors recommend 10–20% above your current expenses to account for inflation and lifestyle
- That total is your FFN
For example: if your monthly expenses are $6,500 and you add a 15% buffer, your FFN is roughly $7,475/month.
How VestmentPulse uses it
Your FFN is the denominator in your Freedom Progress ring on the dashboard. As your monthly passive cashflow from investments grows, the ring fills up. When cashflow equals your FFN, you're financially free.
Set your FFN in Settings → Financial Freedom Number.
